How levels work
Every member has a level, from Regular to Titan. A level shows how much a member has contributed and how often other people have backed up what they share. Levels are worked out automatically from real activity. Nobody sets them by hand, and they go down as well as up.
How points work
| What happens | Points |
|---|---|
You post a report Up to 3 posting points per day. Only for reports that are still visible. | +1 |
One of your reports is confirmed At least 2 different people confirmed it, and confirmations outnumber disputes. | +5 |
Someone says your report helped Per person, up to 3 per report. | +1 |
One of your reports is disputed At least 2 different people disputed it, and disputes outnumber confirmations. | -3 |
A moderator hides one of your reports Hidden after people flagged it, for example as a scam or as harmful. | -10 |
Points never go below 0. Confirmed reports are worth five times a post, so a few reports that other people back up count for more than many that nobody backs up.
The five levels
| Level | Points needed | Also needs |
|---|---|---|
| Regular · 1 | 0 | Everyone starts here. |
| Contributor · 2 | 15 | At least 1 confirmed report. |
| Trusted · 3 | 60 | At least 5 confirmed reports, and fewer than 20% of your reports disputed. |
| Pillar · 4 | 200 | At least 20 confirmed reports from at least 10 different people, fewer than 15% disputed, and no reports hidden in the last 180 days. |
| Titan · 5 | 500 | At least 75 confirmed reports from at least 30 different people, no reports hidden in the last 180 days, and approval by the Naija Now team. |
Posting alone cannot lift anyone above Regular. Every level from 2 upwards also needs reports that other people have confirmed.
How we protect it from cheating
- Nobody can confirm or dispute their own report.
- One person's confirmations count for at most 3 of your reports, so a friend or a second account cannot push you up. The same limit applies to disputes, so one person cannot pull your score down either.
- Posting points are capped at 3 a day, so posting a lot of reports does not pay off by itself.
- Disputed and hidden reports cost more points than a post earns, so junk reports lose points overall.
- Titan is approved by the Naija Now team, never automatic.
What levels do not mean
- A level is not a guarantee. A high level does not mean a report is true, and Naija Now does not verify anyone's identity or qualifications.
- The system is not foolproof. Someone who makes many accounts could still try to cheat slowly. These rules make that slow and costly, and we can hide reports and review accounts when people flag a problem.
- Always judge a report by its date, its confirmations and disputes, and your own knowledge of the place.
